Zhaga standard for linear socketable LED modules | Electronics Weekly

LED lighting body Zhaga has released a standard for ‘linear socketable LED modules for non-SELV applications’ – Zhaga Book 26 – intended luminairs with LED modules that can be replaced without tools and that simply plug into internal wiring.

Earlier Book 21 covers ‘linear socketable LED modules for SELV applications’ – SELV is an acronym for separated (or safety, depending on standards body) extra-low voltage.

“Zhaga Book 26 sets the framework for interoperable LED modules with standardised electro-mechanical interfaces [which] ensures that the modules can be easily integrated and replaced,” according to the organisation. “Available in lengths up to five feet, Book 26 LED modules [are] suitable for troffers to slim linear luminaires for trunking.”

The light sources have areas set-aside for mechanically mounting, by clamps, for example, and two alternative edge-connector locations, one on a long edge for troffers, and the other on the end for slim trunking luminaires.

Products made to Book 26 are intended to be certified for interchangeability through independent test centers, after which they can be listed in the Zhaga database and carry a Zhaga logo (left).

“Certification also ensures that next-generation modules will fit seamlessly into existing Book 26 luminaires, providing a clear pathway to sustainable lighting solutions,” claimed the organisation.
